Adam Cooks the Win
Report by Kay Turner

With everyone desperate to get back on the track after a 2 month break, a great turnout of riders arrived at a rather soggy West Kennett track. With the circuit completely changed and running in the opposite direction, the riders took to the start line to tackle their way through the mud. By midday, the track was in perfect condition and the action was non-stop from the ping of the elastic.

The old-timers were first out, with a handful of novices joining in the fun, and to add more variety to the class, a few Evo riders paraded their bikes with a bit of retro race gear thrown in for good measure too! A welcome sight to see Paul Spacagna return to the race track, and didn’t look as though he’d been away, storming straight into the lead in the opening races to grab the wins. Being denied a straight set, he still pushed hard to stay at the front of pack, to cruise into second place in the final moto. Tony Hale kept Spags within his sights to follow him home in second place in the opening motos, but romped straight into the lead in race three, keeping just enough distance ahead to take the final race win. A brilliant performance by Evo rider Ashley Senior impressed the VMX lads, and kept on the gas to ensure a high finish was in order. A fourth followed by two thirds rewarded him with third overall. Even on a borrowed bike, Tony Noyes was still extremely rapid as he chased down the leading trio, and battled throughout the day with the youngster on the Evo bike, both riders sharing a third and fourth spot, with Noyes crossing the line in fourth in the final moto to secure fourth overall. Neil White was the first AMX Novice to appear in the top six, giving the “oldies” a run for their money, just slipping outside sixth position in the final moto, but two fifth places in the opening races rewarded him with fifth overall. Jamie Winbourne was the next vet to rank highly, a consistent day on the track, riding effortlessly to finish the day in sixth overall with three sixth places.

Adam Cook in the AMX group was impressively quick around the circuit, leading from the off and pulling well away from the rest of the pack after only a couple of laps. He remained in front and took home the overall with three wins. Tom Moore didn’t put a wheel wrong all day, and powered his way into second place, battling hard with the unfortunate Danny Iles who retired from the meeting after race two. Moore secured two second places to take the runner-up spot. Brad Aspden rode well, chasing Sean Lock down in the opening motos to finish in fifth place, but stepped up his pace in the last race, a brilliant third ending his day on a high to secure third overall. Sean Lock pushed hard to try to get into the lead but it wasn’t to be his day, although two great fourth places bode well for some high points at the end of the meeting. But a crash in the final moto saw him limp out of the race, but he soon changed his mind and rejoined the pack to battle on through the pain, and eventually finished fourth overall. Newcomer Luke Wicks didn’t have the best of starts to the day, appearing just outside the top, but he redeemed himself in the following two races, pushing way up the leaderboard at full speed, a brilliant sixth in the final moto rewarding him with fifth overall. Aaron read started the day off well on home turf, just narrowly missing out on sixth position after a close battle with Aaron Bowden. Only losing a one place per race in motos two and three he remained in the top ten to secure sixth overall, but he may want to go home and swat up on what a last lap flag and finish flag look like .........!!! Black and yellow – one lap to go!!!

Senior rider Jordan Carrier was determined to take home the overall on the day and did so in fine style, powering into the lead from the start, never faltering once and even with the added pressure of the concussed Dan Maxey in the final moto he remained focused to bag all three wins. Josh Pitt pushed hard to grab the lead and battled hard with Chae Jenkinson for supremacy, both riders taking a second and a third in the opening races. With a third in the final moto Pitt secured second overall. Jenkinson was flat out, a spill in the final moto denying him moving up the leaderboard, but still rode well to finish in third overall. Back with the familiar number “30” on his bike, David Roberts, had a great start to his day, pushing the leading trio all the way home to finish in fourth in races one and two. Again in a high position in the final moto, he unfortunately crashed but still remained top ten, picking himself up and crossing the finish line in ninth place to finish in fourth overall. A great start to the year for Andrew Walker who laid his bike problems to rest and successfully complete the meeting, and in fine style too!! Straight into the top six from the off he persevered to remain with the front runners, and finished sixth in race one. Leaving the best till last, he stormed into fifth place, a great result which rewarded him fifth overall. With great finishes in the opening motos things were looking good for Scott Kennedy, who battled his way into fifth place in motos one and two. However, it always helps to be on the start line at the start of a race, and Scott unfortunately wasn’t in race three! Joining the group midway through the first lap, he had his work cut out to battle his way through the field, but did a commendable job of still finishing in 14th place to secure sixth overall.

With the big and small wheeled 85 riders joining forces in the next race, the start line was jam-packed and made for some exciting action once they were let off the gate. It was the smaller wheeled riders who dominated the field, with a brilliant three-way battle at the front. Michael Ellis was flying to take the first two wins, keeping the rampaging Henry Siddiqui off his tail, and did just enough to secure the overall win. Siddiqui wasn’t to be denied a win, and powered straight into first place in the last moto and grabbed the win magnificently to secure second overall. Aaron Booker kept the top two riders within arms length and chased them home in third place in all motos to finish the day in third overall. With the riders battling it out to get to the start line, the action was rapid even before turn of the 5-second board. Aaron Gordon got a little bit over-excited at the start, but regained his composure to follow the top three home in the opening motos. Straight into fourth place again at the start in the final race, he disappeared after a lap but worked his way back through the field to finish in eighth place to secure fourth overall. Jamie Cox was the leading big wheeled rider, bagging three fifth places to finish in fifth overall, and first in his class. Gary Dalton was a force to be reckoned with, chasing the top riders down with ease, and secured two top ten placings in the opening race. But a determined effort in the final moto saw him secure a brilliant first place in his class, bagging fourth place on the day to take home sixth overall.

The Junior class was a game of follow-the-leader, with Charlie Cole remaining in charge throughout the day, three convincing wins rewarding him with the overall. Liam Jones was gunning for a win, riding at a tremendous speed to secure second overall with three second places. George Stock was close behind, three consistent and well-ridden third place finishes rewarding him with third overall. A brilliant battle pursued between Ben Richards and Bradley Foley with Foley taking the upper hand in the first and last race to take fourth place, with Richards in fifth. But Richards took over fourth spot in race two, with Foley only managing to finish and seventh, and stole the extra point to secure fourth overall, with Foley in fifth. Kurt Hemmings rode a consistent set of races, not putting a wheel wrong in every race to secure three sixth places and sixth overall.

Last to go were the Autos, who battled hard to wade their way through the claggy mud, but the conditions were no match for Luke Williamson’s power as he stormed home to victory in motos two and three to secure the overall victory. Jack Scully had a brilliant opening race, snatching the win then continued to fight it out with Liam Brosnan, chasing him home in the remaining races to secure two third places, ending the day in second overall. Brosnan pushed hard to improve on his third place in race one, and romped home in second place in races two and three to finish second, which secured him third overall. An outstanding first race by Toby Potter saw him sneak into second place, not far off the leaders spot. A sixth and a fifth in the remaining races rewarded him with high points and he ended the day in fourth overall. Oliver Cole was once again flying around the track, chasing down the first race winner, close up behind Scully in races two and three to finish in fourth place in both races and ended the day in fifth overall. Louie Wakefield kept his wits about him as a number of riders tried to grab his position, but a brilliant fifth in race two ensured he would have the last laugh on the day and took the sixth overall spot.
