Canada Heights - New Heights for Whatley Empty
PostSubject: Canada Heights - New Heights for Whatley   Canada Heights - New Heights for Whatley EmptyTue Mar 29, 2011 5:04 am

The Kent countryside was set alight with some scorching rides by Kristian Whatley and Ray Rowson on Sunday at round 2 of the Maxxis British Championship. Mx1 was crammed with a quality international field of GP riders including French superstar Seb Pourcell still here after the recent Hawkstone international. Moto 1 saw Whatley take off in 4th where he stayed until lap 5 when Porcell came past, but young Whatley stayed in touch and had the race been longer he was within striking distance of a podium.
Moto 2 had to be re-started after Pourcell became victim to the rough sandy circuit, the restart was destined to be cut short too as veteran GP rider Crockard also parted company with his machine and required medical treatment. On the re-start Whatley gated in touch with leaders Sword and Dougan. Simpson worked his way past Schiffer and then on lap 5 got past Whatley but Sword dropped the CCM and put Whatley back up into 3rd and 2 laps later the race was stopped with results standing.
The last race saw the Samsung Yamaha pilot rocket up the hill to take the Holeshot, with a blistering pace Whatley pulled out a few bike lengths immediately and looked totally at ease with the best riders in the country squabbling for position. It was Simpson who came through the chasing pack to take Whatley on lap 4, but it wasn't a walk away as

Whatley clung on to the back changing his lines to some of Simpsons in an attempt to gain even more speed which kept him one step ahead of CCM's title hopeful Sword, it took the experienced GP runner a further 3 more laps before he found his way past leaving Whatley with another 3rd at the finish and a fantastic 2nd overall on the day and 4th in the championship!

Mx2 looked set to be a domination by round 1 winner Osborne but team mate Tonus had other ideas and the 2 Bike-It Yamaha riders dominated the days proceedings. Samsung Yamaha riders Rowson and Evans qualified 11th and 27th respectfully with Rowson getting a great jump out of the gate in moto1 he was quickly demoted to 5th by a hard charging Karro aboard his Honda.

Riding well above his qualifying position only Pocock and wild card Roelants where to pass by the end. A poor start and a spill on lap 2 has Evans circulating at the back in the early going but again showing great determination and speed saw the youngster climp back up to 29th which turned out to be his best ride of the day.

Moto 2 got underway and Rowson seems to be getting a bit of a reputation for putting the Samsung Yamaha into turn 1 in the lead showing everyone that the team has one of the fastest bikes in the paddock. Unfortunately a spill on lap 3 dropped him down to 8th where he stayed till the chequered flag came out.

Evans was mid pack out of the blocks but by lap 4 he was in the points and moving forward nicely. But lady luck stepped in and he went down in the first of 2 crashes that saw him relegated to the back of the field once more, remounting and never giving up he climbed back to 31st.

Final encounter for the quarter litres wasn't a good one for the Samsung squad as Evans was wiped out in turn 1 and with over half the race gone Rowson had an electrical malfunction causing him to pull out.
