With torrential downpours and a mud bath on the cards, Portsmouth MX Club were pleasantly surprised to find perfect track conditions at their recent meeting at Bere Regis. With heavy showers the previous day, there were just a few puddles to prove there had been any rain when the riders arrived at the track.
An awesome turnout in the Inter Open class saw Josh Coleman putting his Semi Final disappointment behind him, and with the bike working perfectly, he totally dominated the class to secure three straight wins and was rewarded with the overall victory. On her return from injury, Beth Farmer was on top form, storming into second place and holding a clear advantage over her rivals in the first and last moto. A great comeback by Farmer to finish in second overall. An exceptional performance from Gary Dalton who was battling in amongst the front runners from the first moto, but was truly inspirational as he stormed into third place, and remained dominant and consistent to secure another third in the final moto to secure third overall.
A bad start to the day as Charlie Way headed to hospital with a broken arm, but as racing continued Aaron Gordon totally obliterated the rest of the Inter 85 field to secure all three wins and the overall victory. A welcome return by Josh Bunter saw him pushing hard to grab a win for himself, but settled for three second places to secure second overall. Tom Gathercole had a great day on the track, remaining seated on the bike to ensure he finished each race high up the leader board, and comfortably secured three thirds to finish in third overall.
In the Junior class, the club saw the return of Jake Parker to take over at the front of the field, but he didn’t have an easy time as Liam Jones was breathing down his neck in each moto. Securing two wins over Jones’s one, Parker grabbed top spot. Jones put in an impressive show on the track and gaining some extra speed in race two, he shot into the lead and grabbed a win for himself, and with his two second places added onto his points tally, he easily secured second overall. Local boy Buddy Shipton made an easy job of the Rogershill circuit, following the leading duo home in the first two motos, just narrowly missing out on three straight third places but still slotted into third overall.
There was a nail-biting finish in all three Auto races as three riders battled it out for supremacy in the class. But Liam Brosnan held his nerve and quickly placed himself in the lead and a brilliant ride in each race rewarded him with three race wins to secure the overall victory. Luke Williamson continued to race hard at the front of the pack and although he didn’t manage to bag a win, he still did enough to secure second overall, two second places squeezing him just ahead of Harry White. White had the most awesome starts during the day, race three seeing him holeshot and lead the rest of the pack for most of the race, succumbing to the pressure of Brosnan and Williamson in the last couple of laps, but two thirds and a brilliant second were enough to reward him with third overall.
With all adult classes running together, the action was outstanding from start to finish, but there was no disputing the outright winner. Jake Shipton was an inspiration to watch around the circuit, a faultless performance rewarding him with three straight wins, and the overall victory in the AMX class. Nicky Watts put in an impressive effort also, shooting out of the gate like a rocket, and staying dominant at the front, closing in on Shipton as each lap passed, and with three second places he secured second overall. The only 125 rider on the track against the bigger bikes, Wildman Willis powered his way into the top three at a blistering rate by the final moto, battling hard to secure his place, and his hard effort rewarded him with third overall.
The Novice class was dominated by Luke Humphreys who finished high up in the combined class, but finished first in each race in his group to secure the overall win. A brilliant battle between Scott Sanders and Jamie Lynam saw the two riders battling it out in each race, chopping and changing positions but Sanders just edged ahead of Lynam to snatch second overall with three seconds ahead of Lynam in third with three third places.
In his last meeting before sitting out the rest of the season due to surgery, Martin Bradbury was determined to win the VMX class and did so in fine style, putting pressure on the younger lads and forcing his way into the top six in each race, dominating his group to secure all three wins and the overall victory. Simon Smart put in a determined effort to remain high up the leaderboard and appearing in the top ten in the combined group, he secured three second places to bag second overall. Neil Jenkinson battled hard with Nigel Bachelor and both riders secured a third and fourth each. But Jenkinson’s impressive starts which powered him up the front of the pack on the first race, resulted in him securing another third to bag him third overall.
Only two Twinshock riders tackled the track, Dick Tett managing to finish each race, to secure the overall. Ian Cameron had serious bike issues before the first race so missed out even starting the moto, but appeared in the remaining races to finish ahead of Tett and finished in second overall.
Immense tension at the front of the Senior group saw Fraser Viner and Jordan Carrier battling it out to win the race, with Viner securing the win in race one. But a DNF in race two left Carrier in charge, and a faultless ride in both the second and third race left him in taking the overall victory, morph style! Chae Jenkinson was close behind, in a matching morph outfit and pushed as hard as possible to grab a win but had to settle for a third and two seconds to finish in second overall. Jonathan Cole blasted out of the gate to lead the pack but disappeared from view and had to work hard to push his way through the field. But an impressive effort in the remaining motos rewarded him with two thirds and third overall.

| One of only a handful of EVO riders to attend the meeting, Matt Biles (6) unfortunately didn't get one race in, the joys of the old bikes eh?! | |
