PostSubject: Old bikes.   Old bikes. EmptySun Apr 26, 2009 12:06 pm

I was sat thinking about some of my old bikes the other day, i've had a few I can tell ya... Laughing

My first race bike was about my 5th bike in total, it was a 4 stroke affraid a Honda XR75 that I raced in with the 'inters' which back then was a 100cc class. I was too small to reach the ground on a 100 so after having a season on the XR I moved onto a 2 stroke Yam 80cc, yes 80 not 85 thats what they used to be Wink

So what was your first race bike?

Doesn't look like a Bantam to me , the majority of bikes had an underslung exhaust back then , Huskys exhaust was on the other side so I don't think that it is one of them . Come on Oldgaz let us out of our misery , spill the beans .

IT was a Bantam, (D14/4)I can remember my dad bought it off of Graham Orchard,(I think he still has something to do with Moto Cross engines as Tom Lowe mentioned to me recently that Graham had done some work for him or something, small world i think)I can remember i used to have to charge the battery up for every meeting and take a fully charged spare with us in case the thing run out of life, I used to have to brasso (polish)the exhaust port every other meeting too, heres another pic from St Ives another RSSC meeting. I think it also had C15(250cc) forks, I'll post up some pictures of some of ,my other bikesl later on, the next bike I had was a '73 Dalesman Sachs, (the follow on from the Dalesman Puch), then a '74 Suzuki TM125, followed by a '76 Honda Cr125m, Then into adults with a couple of CCMs (one being a '79 ex Bob Wright factory bike) A 390 Husky,A 440 Kawaski (which was a Kx 420 with a long stroke kit in it) '81 490 Maico, '82 Armstrong 500,JBR Honda,'83 CR 480 Honda,A Suzuki PE250 (did enduros for a bit),'88 Rm250,'89 ATK 604,'90 KX500, '98 EX Leask 610 Husky,'99 Cr500,'07 KTM 450,'99 Rm 250,Now into twinshocks With the '79 Yz400 (now for sale) as this year I'm doing the RDH on 1980 RM 125's( 125's are a lot easier on the old bones and I can pick 'em up unaided)
Next Septemeber 2011 I will have been racing,(with a couple of years of here and there (mainly due to wives) and a few injuries) for FORTY YEARS now that is scary!!!

OK Well here goes, I've actually found a pic of me on my first bike back in 1971 at a RSSC event, again Boundary lane, a home made Suzuki 50, come on I'm only 11, try not to laugh to much!!!in this lot is the Dalesman sachs (me in a PINK shirt, must heve been fashionable in '74), the Suzuki TM125 at the '75 BSMA championships at Kidderminster,( I did crap !!) a couple of the Honda CR125m, one of me getting the Holeshot in front of Kevein Slight on the Husky, Mike Shotter behind him and a one Steve Barber (Bengt husky)on his right shoulder and yes I did win it, the other one of the Honda is at Kingsclere, just to show the Berm Specialalities Porcupine Head we head on it from America (remember them). Then there is the '76 CCM Taken at Polcrebo Downs Cornwall July '77 , the next pic is the ex-works '79 CCM at Owslebury Sept'80, then the 440 Kawasaki at Polcrebo downs,(I like Cornwall) the'79 390 Husky at the Ken Hall ( that was actually an ex-Cris Adlem bike)when we used to go straight on after getting to the top of cold hill, the Honda 480 with Richard Brookes saying hello, and my '99 Honda CR500.Next is the Kawasaki 500 with full FMF exhaust and Suzuki conventional forks(they were better than the upside downs) the Ex-Perry Leask 610 Husky,'82 Armstrong 500 and finally the ATK 604.Old bikes.
