A good number of riders arrived at the scenic Whitings Water circuit just outside Shaftesbury for Portsmouth MX Clubs latest round of their Summer championship. A lovely warm day and a great new circuit made for a perfect day as the riders enjoyed the twisty, tight track.

With the Junior and Auto classes joining forces for the first race of the block, Junior Tyler Rowe was unstoppable, no-one able to catch him and he sped to three straight wins to steal the overall victory on the day. Ben Richards put 100% into his racing on the day, an impressive set of second places rewarding him with second overall. With improving starts as the day went on, Jamie Turner rode at blistering speed, a gallant effort in each race to ensure he placed highly. An outstanding third in race three secured him third overall.

Austin Wild and Harry White gave the Junior lads a run for their money, running well within the top six in the combined class. There was a great scrap between the two riders for supremacy, with Wild narrowly missing out on three wins, but a slight slip in race two denied him. But with the first and last race wins in the bag he secured the overall. White once again was flying and despite a crash or two, managed to grab the win in race two and finished comfortably in second overall. A perfect day for Sam Upton who rode at his best, and not putting a wheel wrong all day, he crossed the line in third place to secure third overall.

With an abundance of adult riders, the VMX and EVO/Twinshock riders were grouped together, with VMX rider Tony Hale totally dominating the field. Straight into the lead from the drop of the gate, he rode impressively to keep the lead and secured three straight wins and the overall victory. A tussle followed behind, with Simon Hart proving the old bikes can equal any new machine, and finishing behind Hale, he grabbed each first place in the EVO class to secure the overall victory. Darren Noyes was back on the scene and made an instant impact as he charged into the top three, finishing second in each race in the VMX to finish up second overall. Dale Hunt battled hard on the Honda and three great rides rewarded him with third in the class. Louis Reid had impressive starts which pushed him up the leaderboard, three second places in the EVO class securing him second overall. Consistent riding mid-pack proved valuable to Matthew Milsom as he grabbed third place overall.

The AMX and AMX Novice joined forces in the next moto, with Brad Aspden powering straight to the front of the pack from the off. Brilliant starts ensured he stayed out front , unfortunately stalling his bike denied him three straight wins, but with two tucked under his crash helmet he was awarded the overall in the AMX. A welcome return to Jamie Tempest after being out for nine months due to his horrific crash at Foxhill last year, and he showed everyone what they had been missing as he stormed into second place, creeping up on Aspden as each lap wore on, and secured second overall with three second places. Lee Lucas gave the leading two a run for their money and sped into the lead in race two to secure the win, giving him valuable points to grab third overall.

Matt Smith was the highest placed Novice rider edging into the top ten in the first two races, but a disastrous last race saw him crashing out, losing him the overall. Robert Grant took over at the front of the group in the final moto, a brilliant win securing him the overall victory by one point. Smith finished just one point behind in second overall. Great starts for Jamie Lynam ensured he would place highly, and rode brilliantly throughout the day, an unfortunate spill in race two denying him from placing higher, but his two seconds in his class rewarded his efforts with third overall.

An awesome line-up in the Senior class saw the welcome return of Harry Hinson and Billy Hare with both riders dominating the front of the field. A heavy crash unfortunately denied Hinson from repeating his two race wins and left him taking an early bath. Hare was on fire as he chased Hinson down after leading race one, and sped comfortably to victory in the final moto to secure the overall. An impressive performance from Andrew Walker saw him charging hard at the front of the field, two brilliant third places and a fifth giving him a deserved second overall. Harry Colson battled hard with a number of riders throughout the day, bar bashing his way into fourth in the first and last races to secure third overall.

A number of riders fought for supremacy in the Inter Open class, with the leaders changing each lap, but Cam MacDonald piled on the pressure and rode a great set of races to power into the lead to secure all three race wins and the overall. Jamie Cox was hot on his heels, chasing MacDonald and closing him down and with two seconds was awarded second overall. Outstanding starts rewarded Tallon Aspden as he took charge of the group, narrowly missing out on securing a win but rode well enough to be awarded third overall on the day.

The pressure was on in the Inter 85 class as Tom Gathercole and Stefan Millward went head to head to grab valuable championship points. But like a rocket, Gathercole was straight out the gate and into the lead and put in three perfect performances to keep first place and secured all three race wins and the overall victory. Millward wasn’t too far behind, and was on for three second places, but slipping out near the finish denied him but still rode brilliantly to finish up in second overall. Jamie-Lee Burges had an amazing day, flying over jumps with ease and set his sights on Millwards back mudguard, sneaking into second place in the second moto and with two third places added to his tally he finished up in third overall.
